Compositions

Visit jeffellwood.com for free downloads of Bergonzi’s original compositions and re-harmonizations. Compiled by Jeff Ellwood: “The Music of Jerry Bergonzi Volumes 1 and 2” and “Re-Harmonization of Standards” “This project was a labor of love”, says Jeff. After learning that Jerry’s tunes were all handwritten, Jeff took on the challenge of making almost 200 tunes legible! They are all available on his website for free.

Master Your Mouthpiece

"What I look for in a mouthpiece is the ability to shape the sound that I hear in my head, along with ease of articulation. Drake mouthpieces do that for me."

 Jerry Bergonzi

Known worldwide for its high quality, innovative design and unique material make up, Drake Mouthpieces, is the leading source for handcrafted saxophone mouthpieces. Aaron Drake personally hand faces and finishes every piece.  He fashioned the Drake Jerry Bergonzi "EB" Masters Series Mouthpiece borrowing the most desirable aspects of Jerry’s Early Babbitt model.

“The design process was over two years in the making, with extensive input and feedback from Bergonzi at every stage. The result is a mouthpiece that generates a lustrous, lush, fat sound, in line with the best vintage mouthpieces of the era. The EB is a large, round chamber mouthpiece that incorporates the classic "crescent" shaped baffle, which transitions to a recalibrated floor contour. The tip and side rails are finished to Jerry's exact specifications. He prefers a slightly wider contour that facilitates a fat sound and stabilizes the attack.” Aaron Drake

Inside Improvisation Series

Published by Schott Music (available in multiple languages)

The seven book Inside Improvisation Series (for all instruments with book & audio play-along CD’s) describes a simple and pragmatic approach to improvisation. While focusing on the jazz idiom, the techniques discussed are applicable to many styles of music and all instruments, be it rock guitar, jazz saxophone, or the solos of the fusion keyboardist. The system created by Bergonzi offers a tangible pathway to inside the creative imagination by getting inside harmony, inside the changes. Chord changes are included for C concert, B-flat and E-flat instruments and examples are also transposed for all instruments. The accompanying recordings have been designed for use in conjunction with each of the chapter assignments.
